Electric Wire Hustle Takes Us To ‘The 11th Sky’

Today we've been given a multitude of musical blessings. Of course the most talked about today has been Solange's special delivery. However, we'd be remiss if we didn't also spotlight another amazing new release: Electric Wire Hustle's The 11th Sky. The New Zealand-based outfit have been teasing us with teaser singles from the set all month and they end strong with the entire nine-track release that gives us more of the experimental soul sound we've come to expect from them.

Tracks like "Go Slow" and "I Light A Candle," with their ambient sounds and glitchy production, showed us the new direction the groups sound was evolving in. Other tracks further solidify that sound. "Troublemaker" features singer Mara TK's Marvin Gaye-esque vocals over squelching synth bass and delicate strings, a perfect example of the juxtaposition of sound that is featured throughout the set. Elsewhere, two tracks from their previous EP, "Aeons" and "March" featuring Deva Mahal, make the cut. Interestingly enough, nothing here heads above a mid-tempo, instead playing around with slower-paced sounds to underscore the contemplative, soul-searching lyrics presented.

If you're a fan of their previous work, then The 11th Sky will definitely be a welcome listen. If not, then this will be an eclectic introduction to the duo's unconventional musical approach. You can stream The 11th Sky via Spotify right now below and pick up the album for yourself on both Bandcamp and iTunes.
