Get Ready To ‘Dig’ Sidewalk Chalk’s Important Message

We haven't heard a lot from Bounce-Worthy alums Sidewalk Chalk since their cover of Kendrick Lamar's "Alright" way back in 2015. Since then, group member Sam Trump blessed us on the solo tip and the rest of the group has been working on their latest effort, An Orchid Is Born. The project, their fourth full-length collection, is produced in its entirety by GRAMMY Winner Robert "Sput" Searight (of Snarky Puppy fame) and will be split into three movements: The Hope, The Loss and The Birth. Our first taste of what's to come is the lead single "Dig," a politically charged number concerning police brutality and its victims, which gets an animated video treatment courtesy of Jack Blanket.

"Dig" is a fiery track that automatically grabs the listener's attention with its hard-hitting rock feel. That feeling is further intensified with lead singer Rico Sisney's lyrics, first told from the perspective of a slain, unarmed victim and then from the voice of the police officer with a guilty conscience. In the video, both narratives are brought to life using simple, yet arresting animation and three colors, black, white and red. The combination of song and video creates not just an indictment of police brutality, but a much-needed commentary on a problem that's far too prevalent in American society.

Check out the gripping animated visual below and look for Sidewalk Chalk's An Orchid Is Born, which is currently available for pre-order on iTunes, to arrive on June 2nd.
