He might no longer be with The Internet, but Kintaro (aka Jameel Bruner) is definitely joining their recent barrage of releases. The Bruner brother has cooked up quite a few left-of-center jams, including head-nodder "Don't Mind A Label," on his SoundCloud profile. And it looks like the hits keep coming, with the multi-talented musician concocting a dance floor burner with his latest release "Somethin."
"Somethin" finds Kintaro once again playing around with genre, this time taking aim at house territory with a propulsive cut engineered to get you dancing. Starting off with an orchestral sample placed atop percolating percussion, he croons in a hushed falsetto, "If this don't make you dance, then I don't know what will / If you don't wanna move, then do just what you feel." He then raps a few commands, telling all the ladies to shake, twirl and, in a phrase, twerk sumthin' to his unconventional groove. If his pleas fall on deaf ears, the kick drum coming in along with a distorted bass line will definitely be heard by those ready to shake a little something or at least cut a mean two-step.
Though we definitely miss him with his Internet compatriots (who, by the way, happen to be lighting up North America on their winter tour at the moment), he without a doubt is keeping things interesting on the solo tip. Get into "Somethin" below and see if Kintaro can make you move.
