Vivian Green is always a welcome voice. The last time we heard from the songstress, she'd dropped her jamming album Vivid and had us dancing and grooving to her new sound. A few short years later, our girl Vivian is back and she's bringing more of what we're looking for with her latest single "I Don't Know."
For the track, Vivian turns to her manager and frequent collaborator Kwame, with a reggae-inspired groove that interpolates Art Of Noise's "Moments In Love." It's an unlikely combination, but interestingly enough, it works. Vivian takes the unexpected and rides the beat with her honeyed vocals. "I can stop and get out my honey / And he won't quit and get up out me / Now what we got is worth more than money / It's so much more than what people see," she sings on the opening verse. Though she seems confident there, she's a bit more unsure on the hook, singing, "Could this be love? / Could I be out of my mind? / Could I be caught up in the thought of spending time?" While Viv might be unsure of what's really going on, we're definitely in love with this one.
"I Don't Know" is our first taste of Vivian's upcoming VGVI, for which she's eyeing a fall release. Get an earful of the song when you press play below.
